Showcase

Congrats on a good weekend of soccer.  As the weekend went on, the teams got stronger.  We were suppose to play 20 games in three days, but with the weather, five games were cancelled and another three were shortened due to thunder and lightning.  Our final combined record for the three teams was 7-3-5, with all three losses coming by the score of 0-1, and caused by one small defensive miscue.  We clean this up, and we could have been undefeated!    For the most part, we came out of the Showcase injury free.  However, there were a few girls with some minor nicks and knacks, so please get them take care of soon, and if you need to see Chris, please do so early this week.  If the injury persists, and you need to take some time off, please let me know and we can discuss the best option for you.  I also want to remind everyone that if you do see a doctor for “any” injury, you need to get a note from him/her to be able to practice or play again.

Now for the recaps   Bay I played in Division I (stronger Varsity teams) and Bay II played in Division II (middle Varsity teams and the better JV teams).  The Bay III team played in a new U-14 Division this year, so they should have played mainly other freshman teams, although I heard some of the weaker teams put their JV teams into this Division…  There are five Divisions in the Showcase.  The Bay III squad went 2-1-2.  Here is the recap for Bay III:

W/L Opponent Score Goals MVP
Bay III:
Won Green II 2-1 Guinter / Froehlich Guinter
Tied Lehman Catholic II 0-0 Pohlkamp
N/A Vermillion II N/A
Tied Revere II 1-1 Froehlich N.
Won Mentor II 1-1 D. Meisenburg D. Meisenburg
Lost Perrysburg III 0-1 N. Rezek

The Bay II squad went 2-0-3 and had two games cancelled due to thunder and lightning.  Here is the Bay II recap:

The Bay II
N/A Mercy II N/A
N/A Orange II N/A
Tied Strongsville III 2-2 Finicle and Thomas Holmes
Tied Westerville Central II 0-0 Kukura
Won Avon II 3-0 Hardy, Kukura, Pohlkamp Drenkhan
Won Indianapolis 6-0 Ramella (2), Holmes, Hanna, Drenkhan, and Kukura Ramella
Tied Perrysburg II 0-0 Holmes

Our Bay I team played well and very easily could have gone 5-0-0, however the crossbar and posts got in the way in the Mentor and Notre Dame games and we had one defensive miscue in each game that cost us the lone goal in each game and we ended up losing 0-1 in both games.   We went 3-2-0 and had two games cancelled due to unplayable fields.  Here is the Bay I recap:

Bay
Lost Mentor I 0-1 Ritzenthaler
Lost Mt. Notre Dame I 0-1 Hansen
Won Westerville Central I 4-0 Carter, McBride, Taylor (2) Brown
Won Mansfield Senior I 6-0 Irvine (2), McBride (2), Carter, Pugliese Irvine
Won Greenview I 4-0 Carter, Taylor, Ritzenthaler, McBride McBride
N/A Ashland I N/A
N/A Anderson I N/A

Other than the weather and field conditions, I was pleased with the turnout.  We tried a few new things and found out some things that should make us stronger this year.  We will continue to work on our fitness, as we have conditioning this Thursday and Friday at Cahoon from 8:00-10:00 AM.  Please be there at 7:40 to warm-up and stretch.  This will lead us into our Tryout week on August 1st.  All of you have the team calendar, so please make sure you attend every session this week – the times and location are variable.  It is critical for you to be there, and work hard, as we still have a lot of decisions to make regarding all three teams.  I will also have a film session one day next week, but I want to talk to the seniors to see what day works best for them.  Finally, and this is a big one, I want to thank Bill Jordan for all his assistance this past weekend.  He was a real  trooper filling in for me at the games where we had conflicts and assisting me in all the games I attended and coached.  You know, at his age – I think he is pushing 70, or something like that, he performed like a coach in his 30s…  Seriously, I couldn’t have handled three teams without his assistance.  If anyone has any questions, please call me.  Thanks, Mr. G.
